The Outlaw's Run
August 26, 2021
The preceding video was originally Livestreamed at Twitch.tv/shroudoftheavatar (now archived at YouTube), in which the first half of the livestream focuses on Keith describing the new scene called Port Harmony.
The Outlaws' Run is an early adventure scene in Shroud of the Avatar's Episode 2 region, just north of the main entry location. It's this woodlands are home to a variety of critters and threats, a hedge maze with walls that magically shift, and the eponymous outlaws in a village at its center.
Players can encounter several non-player characters at a caravan near the default entrance to the scene. There, they'll learn some of the local backstory and probably pick up a quest. In all likelyhood, the player will be directed to a missing NPC near the entrance to the maze in the middle of this large woodland scene.
Shroud of the Avatar is a high fantasy game, and Keith makes sure each new scene he creates reflects that. The centerpiece of The Outlaw's Run is a magical hedge maze. On it's own, the maze includes several enemies, rewards, and even overlaps with some quests, but it's more special than that. The walls of the maze shift to new orientations while players explore it and try to decipher is secrets. Beyond the maze is a small village where lives the outlaws reminiscent of Robin Hood's merry men. Only these outlaws seem to know the way through the maze to their village, and their believe the maze "knows" they need to be protected. However, clever players may learn the secret of the maze and reach the village of outlaws.
There's plenty of places to visit throughout the rest of the scene, including an experiment station populated by draconian kobolds, a haunted ruins, a dried riverbed defended by elementals. Players who thrive on exploring the scene may trigger a "forest creatures" wave battle that can begin in one of several locations that culminates in a fight against a powerful, crazed Ancient Druid.
